Halfpenny Lane J, I & N School aims to be an inclusive school. We actively seek to remove the barriers to learning and participation that can hinder or exclude individual pupils or groups of pupils, through ensuring equality of opportunity. In order to do this, we carefully track the progress, attitudes to learning and behaviour of the different individuals and groups of children within our school, including:

- Girls and boys;

- Minority ethnic and faith groups;

- Children who need support to learn English as an additional language;

- Children with additional learning needs;

- More-Able and talented children;

- Children who are at risk of disaffection or exclusion;

- Travellers;

- Asylum seekers

The National Curriculum is a key part in planning a curriculum that meets the specific needs of individuals and groups of children. We meet these needs through:

- setting appropriate learning challenges as part of a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum;

- responding to the diverse needs of the children;

- overcoming potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils;

- providing other opportunities to meet the needs of individuals or groups of children.

We aim to achieve educational inclusion through a focus on ensuring that:

- all children achieve their best;

- differences in the achievement of different groups of children are identified and challenged;

- those children who are not achieving their best are identified and ensuring that actions are taken;

- tracking the effectiveness of our actions;

- promoting racial harmony and preparing pupils to live in a diverse society.
